Example installation

Before

Before installation, this house uses 3500 units, all bought from the grid.

The current annual electricity bill is:
Electricity bought (13p / unit) £455
Payment to electricity company £455

The owners install a 4kWp system, costing £10,000, and generate approx 3000 units of electricity a year (based on 750 units per kWp installed). Electricity companies assume that 50% of the electricity generated is exported. Most households only use about 30% of their total electricity demand during daylight, so the owners would use 1050 units (0.3 x 3500) of FREE solar power. During the night or on dull days, they would still buy some electricity from their supplier.
